about

Lane's ability for writing lyrics and applying vocal melodies has thoroughly impressed me in the months that we've been working on songs together. I've come to appreciate the range of his lyrical voice. Sometimes he takes a more colorful, poetic route and other times he is more straightforward (like on this particular song) but he never overdoes it. "Natural, relatable, unpretentious". The words I would use to describe this lyrical approach, I would also use to guide my own writing process.

"Six Day Hiatus" is a song Lane had already written. He graciously let me work on it and inject some of what we've defined as the Syntax Club style. I wrote the surfy electric guitars and the bass lines. While the song is somewhat "short and sweet", I was impressed with how much ground it seemed to cover. I wanted to emphasize the movement and progression in way that felt natural and complimentary. The riff needed to fall in place with Lane's chord progression as well as the mental imagery that the lyrics provided. There was definitely a "vibe" that I tried to build upon rather than forsake.

lyrics

It's been a week and I can barely sleep a wink
Caught in the thought of all the beauty that I've seen
A head full of hope, a heart missing you
Sooner or later I won't let go of you

I'll fly the skies as many times as it will take
For you to know that I have never felt this way
Distance seems cruel, the turtle and the hare
Sooner or later we'll be getting there

You're constantly on my mind
Every minute I miss you
I feel so blessed Beyond comprehension
I feel a little bit nervous every moment I notice
how much I care for you Care for you, Oh I miss you, Oh I do.

It's been a week and I can barely sleep a wink
Caught in the thought of all the beauty that I've seen
